What is Pure CBD?
If you are thinking about buying a product made of pure cbd, stop and read this article first. There are misconceptions in the CBD oil industry on what pure CBD means. You may be surprised that buying pure cbd is not the best option. Give us a chance to explain; we promise you will come away much more knowledgable and ready to select the perfect cbd.
What is CBD Anyways?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one cannabinoid out of the 100-plus cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. It’s one of the most talked-about cannabinoids because of the reported effects it can have on people’s health.
There are 3 main types of CBD being sold in the UK: Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and CBD isolate. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, price points and effectiveness.
When buying CBD, one thing that is misleading is the term ‘pure’. In all fairness, customers want a product that is clean, safe and potent. But having a pure cbd product may be less effective than having a product mixed with other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.
Pure CBD What is It?
The purest form of CBD is CBD isolate. CBD isolate looks like a white powder and can be clumped up or broken down into a fine dust. It is water soluble and generally tasteless. Most CBD isolates are >99.9% pure meaning this is the very definition of pure CBD.
CBD isolates are generally cheap, easy to transport and can be used in many forms. Typically you can find pure CBD in the form of cbd gummies, topicals and balms, vape liquids, water soluble solutions and mixed with oils.
To produce CBD isolate, a solvent is used to carry the pure cbd through a series of filters or levels. The whole process is called chromatography and is common in separating various elements in many industries.
Because of this additional filtering, it is possible to extract 99.9% pure cbd from even the lowest quality hemp. At Pure Organic CBD, we do not use CBD isolates, ever and for good reason. They are inferior products to actual plant extracts.
Why are Isolate products not preferred?
Many would think that using a CBD isolate would be ideal but it is not. Isolates skip all of the important minor players found in a full spectrum extract. In short, a full spectrum of the cannabis plant’s compounds are more beneficial to user.
Full Spectrum and some broad spectrum CBD oils cause the entourage effect. The entourage effect is when all of the plants compounds work together so the effects are stronger. Think of it like a band, the guitar player alone is not as powerful as the singer, drummer and bass player all working together.
There are uses for pure CBD isolates, and there are people who prefer them as they contain only CBD and nothing else.
How do you Take Pure CBD?
Pure CBD isolate normally comes in a crystallised powder form. It is usually very highly concentrated so you only need small amounts. People mix it with their food, dissolve it in liquid or use it to vape with.Â
Full and Broad Spectrum CBD products come in almost every form. You can take them as an oil, in capsules, gummies and lotions.
You can even buy CBD infused coffee and wine! Definitely buy these products with care; the other substances they contain may counteract the effect of the CBD and render them useless.
It is really up to the user on how they would like to consume pure CBD isolates. Because they are so versatile, you can find isolates in every CBD format.
Pure CBD isolates are being used to create misleading products
CBD oil in the UK is a large and very competitive market. The number of brands being created for CBD continues to grow rapidly. Because of competition, companies are always looking on how to lower their prices to increase profits and stay competitive. We know of one other CBD company in the UK selling oils that are actually all made up of CBD isolate.
We call them CBD “cocktails”. CBD cocktails usually consist of CBD isolate mixed with terpenes and flavonoids to replicate a full spectrum product. The results are never the same and the consumer ends up with sub par products.
Be very careful when buying a product that is very low in price. Cannabis is a costly crop and extracting quality CBD from it is expensive. If you find products that are low in price, chances are they made up from CBD isolate with additional ingredients.
What are the advantages of CBD isolate?
Pure CBD contains no THC, which is the cannabinoid that gets you high. It is illegal in the UK if present in a percentage above 0.2%. Some people might find it an advantage that Pure CBD contains no THC, especially if they have to get drug tested for work or competitive purposes.
However, Pure CBD is not the only way to overcome this problem as Broad Spectrum products contain no THC.Â
Lots of studies have taken place to try and understand the effect that CBD has on the body. CBD has been approved for medical use in the case of reducing seizures for people with epilepsy. It hasn’t yet been approved to treat any other illnesses but research is taking place to understand all the other potential benefits of CBD.
People have reported improved sleep, reduced anxiety and even a reduction in pain when taking CBD products. We’ve written some in-depth blog posts about CBD’s impact on conditions such as cancer, fibromyalgia and acne.
What are the Disadvantages?
When you buy pure CBD you don’t get to experience the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect is where all the cannabinoids in a CBD product work together to give you the best effect. These include the flavonoids and terpenes that you find in a high quality CBD oil.Â
Research has been carried out to assess the difference between using CBD isolate alone and using a spectrum CBD product. In 2015, a study on mice found that CBD isolate offered fewer benefits than a spectrum product.
Pure CBD is hard to find as not many companies sell it. This is because of the costs associated with making it and the difficulty of removing all other cannabinoids. At Pure Organic CBD we don’t sell a pure CBD product because we believe in the importance of the Entourage Effect.
Why do we Call our CBD ‘Pure’?
We call our products ‘pure’ to reflect the fact that they do not contain any toxins or pesticides. They’re not tested on animals and the crops are not genetically modified. All of our products contain a range of cannabinoids to encourage the Entourage Effect.
This is because we believe that CBD works best in collaboration with other cannabinoids. Our products are grown in Certified Organic conditions and we believe they are some of the highest quality available on the market.
Summarising
Pure CBD contains no additional cannabinoids apart from CBD. It won’t get you ‘high’ and will likely give you a different effect to a full or broad spectrum product. At Pure Organic CBD we only sell full or broad spectrum products because we believe in the power of the entourage effect.
Therefore, the use of the word ‘pure’ in our name reflects the natural and high quality nature of our product. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can answer all of your queries about cannabinoids and which product is right for you!
