Using CBD for Anxiety (Does it Work?)
CBD or cannabidiol, a substance derived from cannabis, has become increasingly available to the public. There are still misconceptions about CBD like whether it will make you high; the answer is no.
Some healthcare experts believe that CBD has a useful medical benefit for a variety of conditions, including anxiety disorder.
In this article, we will go over the facts and findings of recent studies on anxiety and cbd and find out if CBD helps.
What is Anxiety Disorder?
Everybody feels anxiety from time to time. It’s nature’s way of warning us of danger or at least of things that might go wrong unless we take action.
Anxiety disorder is a different condition altogether, according to the Mayo Clinic. People with this particular disorder feel anxious about everyday situations. The condition can be general or specific to certain situations.
In the latter, we can feel anxious about open spaces (agoraphobia) or closed spaces (claustrophobia). We can have social anxiety (fear of interacting with other people) or separation anxiety (fear of being cut off from a loved one.)
The physical manifestation of anxiety disorder can run the gamut from feelings of panic and fear to hyperventilation and rapid heart rate. The condition is also related to sleep disorders and other physical problems that need treatment.Anxiety disorder can have a number of causes, including a previous trauma (PTSD) to something medical. People with the condition often feel the temptation to “self-medicate” with alcohol or illegal drugs. Alcohol and recreational narcotics lead to a spiral that can only end with rehab or worse.
What is CBD?
CBD is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and has been linked recently to promising studies for its ability to alleviate anxiety, pain, sleep issues and more.
The Harvard Medical School notes that CBD can also be derived from the marijuana plant, though the substance that is legally available in most countries is actually derived from hemp.
CBD from hemp is naturally low in THC which is the compound that makes people high. In Europe, CBD is regulated to have THC content under 0.2%. There is no evidence that there is a public health danger from CBD use.
But there is evidence that CBD has efficacy in treating conditions including anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, and the cravings related to tobacco and drug addiction.
A drug called Epidiolex, which contains CBD, has been approved by the FDA to treat some forms of epilepsy. But most forms of CBD are marketed as a food supplement and not as medication, so governments do not regulate its safety and purity.
Pure Organic CBD products are all registered with the current Novel Food regulations as we’ve maintained the highest standards in transparency and quality.
CBD products come in a variety of forms, including oils, gummies, capsules, lotions, vapes, and patches. Some people use topical lotions to alleviate arthritic and back pain. Other forms of CBD can be taken by mouth when needed for anxiety or other conditions.

Can CBD be Used to Treat Anxiety?
While several studies suggest that CBD products can be effective in treating various anxiety disorders, virtually all carry the caveat that further human studies are needed to make certain. There is a general consensus
For example, a review published in the journal Neurotherapeutics consisted of a survey of 49 studies of CBD used to treat anxiety disorder for both animal and human subjects. The survey concluded that CBD can be used to treat a wide variety of anxiety disorders with a great deal of efficacy and safety. The human trials, incidentally, used doses of between 300 and 600 milligrams of CBD.
A 2018 study published in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry was conducted on 57 male subjects who received 150 milligrams of CBD, 300 milligrams, 600 milligrams, or a placebo (the CBD used was an isolate form. For more on CBD isolates <<click here.). The results were that the subjects who received 300 milligrams exhibited significantly reduced anxiety when delivering a speech before an audience.
A 2021 article in Healio quotes a study conducted by McLean Hospital that involved dosing patients with 3.5 milliliters of CBD per day. The results were that not only was the substance well tolerated by the human subjects with no serious side effects but that they showed significant improvement in their levels of anxiety. The number of test subjects was small, however, with just a total of seven patients. The study is currently undergoing a double-blind placebo phase with a greater number of test subjects with a wider variety of ages, genders, races, and medication use.
Obtaining and Using CBD
If you are interested in purchasing CBD there are many things that you need to look out for. Not all products are created equally and finding the right one can be easy if you know what to look for.
One indicator that the CBD product might be of use is something called a “certificate of analysis” or COA ” or a CBD lab report.
A COA indicates that the product has undergone analysis by an independent laboratory for things like CBD types, weight percentages of CBD, and concentration.
A good COA should also detect contaminants such as pesticides and heavy metals.
You can find COAs for all of our products published on the product page.
The label of the CBD product should also contain a complete list of ingredients. Thankfully, our products only contain two: CBD and carrier oil (sunflower or MCT from coconuts).
Consumer Reports suggests making sure that the lab meets “ISO 17025” standards.
Some highly respected labs include the CBD-Test in Switzerland, Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC), the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), or the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP).
You should consult with your healthcare professional before taking a CBD product for anxiety or any other purpose. Some CBD products do have side effects and interactions with medications you may be taking.
Conclusion
Although science has not been able to definitively say using CBD for anxiety works, there are millions of people who use it daily. At Pure Organic CBD, we’ve found that anxiety strikes people of all ages and social situations and that people ask us how our CBD can help them.
CBD has been shown to interact with the body’s Endocannabinoid System which plays a large role in finding homeostasis in the body. The direct interaction of how CBD works for anxiety is yet to be proven but that doesn’t mean it does not work.
If you are thinking of using CBD for anxiety, you may want to speak to a doctor first if you are taking any other medication. CBD could have an interaction with some anti-anxiety medication so it is important that you research your decision first before you buy.
As mentioned in this article, CBD comes in all types and form factors. Our company firmly believes in oils as being the best way to deliver CBD’s benefits. The bioavailability of CBD in an oil format is easily absorbed into the body.
