Can CBD Oil Get You High?
CBD oil and its benefits are becoming very well known across Europe and the UK. As interest grows, so do curiosities and questions. People of different age groups have their own concerns related to their own needs.
We can see trends growing among these groups, and we work hard to supply trusted information to our customers who have concerns.
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is: Can CBD oil get you high? We want to answer this question with a crystal clear NO. CBD alone can not make you high as it is not psychotropic in any way.
There are outside factors when you buy a CBD product that could lead to a high. For instance, the type of cannabis used to create the CBD has a direct impact on the amount of THC that is included in the final product.
In this article, we will thoroughly explore the topic so that you know with zero doubts that CBD can not make you high.
What is CBD Oil?
To answer the question if CBD oil can get you high, we first need to understand what CBD is.
So, what is CBD? Cannabidiol or CBD for short, is a cannabinoid that has shown to have positive impacts on the human body and mind.
CBD is an active cannabinoid along with THC. When you think of people smoking marijana to get high, they are smoking it for the high (no pun intended) levels of THC. You see, THC is the cannabinoid that makes a person high. And even though CBD comes from the same plant as THC, it couldn’t be more opposite.
CBD and THC are Two Different Things
CBD is found in both hemp and recreational marijuana and it is possible to extract CBD from both. And while here at Pure Organic CBD we are able to control THC levels in our products, we choose to use our own strain of hemp. This allows our products to remain under the legal limit of 0.2% THC while delivering the highest quality possible.
CBD extracted from industrial hemp is low in THC, or the part of the plant that can make you high. CBD extracted from marijuana on the other hand is the exact opposite. When CBD cannabinoids are extracted from marijuana, the THC levels will be very high. Do not buy these types of CBD products as it could impair your ability to function normally. If you are interested in trying CBD oil for its health benefits, be sure to buy from a company like ours. We provide lab tests for each product that prove beyond a doubt that our products will never make you high or feel intoxicated. Further, these lab reports are filed with the laboratory’s archives and are tamper-proof.
* A note about CBD lab reports– no doubt as you search the internet for a CBD product, you will want to see verifiable lab reports for your own peace of mind. Be careful of any lab report that does not have verification with the lab who administered the test.
A quality lab report will have a QR code that is scannable. A QR code should lead you to the laboratory’s archived copy of the lab test. Today, there are many CBD companies out there doctoring their lab reports in an effort to pass an inferior product off as being high-quality.
How Does CBD and THC Work?
CBD and THC interact with the body along the same systems which is the Endocannabinoid System or ECS. The ECS has a large network of receptors classified as CB1 and CB2. CBD interacts mostly with CB2 receptors while THC interacts with CB1.
THC actually binds to receptors and causes a direct psychotropic effect. CBD works a bit differently and works indirectly with the receptors. CBD can actually cancel out the effects of THC in small amounts, which is quite incredible.
As CBD works its way through the body, it stimulates the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor and the vanilloid receptors. Serotonin is a chemical associated with good feelings and with happiness. Main question is, what does this have to do with getting high?
THC, as opposed to CBD, binds directly to the receptors. Interestingly, THC compounds fit directly into the receptors and this is part of the reason why THC will make a person intoxicated. In the presence of CBD, THC’s ability to “fit into” the receptors is inhibited, hence why CBD can cancel out THC in a small way.
On the other hand, CBD oil derived from high-THC recreational cannabis often forgoes these stringent processes, or purposefully retains as much THC as possible. In fact, these oils are usually created to offer an equal or diverse ratio of both THC and CBD. While this may be fine for some, it is NOT truly considered CBD oil, but rather, cannabis oil.
Psychoactive Effects of CBD
Although CBD will not make you high, it does technically have minor and subtle psychoactive effects on the mind. CBD does interact with brain chemistry but not in an adverse way. We’ve heard about the effects of dark chocolate on brain chemistry. Or Ginkgo Biloba’s effects on memory function. These are alternative examples of psychoactive with a positive outcome. Consider CBD to have the same positive effects, but on a person’s mood, mental health and wellbeing.
The Future Of CBD Oil
To be clear, CBD oil can not get you high as long as you source it from the right place. As cannabis products become more mainstream, governments will look to regulate them more. This is what is happening in the UK and EU. Governments want to ensure that products are advertised and used in a safe way. They also want to be sure quality never becomes an issue.
We welcome new guidelines in legislation as a way of protecting anyone interested in trying CBD oil.
So rest assured that Pure Organic CBD products will never get you high. Instead, they allow our customers to experience the benefits of CBD for themselves in a safe and natural way.
Conclusion
Not all CBD oil is the same or from the same source. It is important for CBD oil users to check for 3 things before buying.
- That the CBD oil is organic- Organically grown hemp will be a higher quality end product and give you a better chance of achieving the goals you have with CBD oil
- CBD does not get you high- THC does. Be sure that you are buying a product that clearly states the THC content and has a lab report to back it up. If you get drug tested for your job, make sure to avoid CBD products with any THC as you could test positively for narcotics.
- CBD works with the body- It has been shown to interact with the ECS system which helps the body find balance.
