There are endless new ways to consume CBD products these days. From foods and beverages, topicals and CBD tinctures. This creates a lot of confusion for new customers looking for the best way to take CBD for their specific goal(s). How do you know what to pick?
In the CBD industry, oils make up the largest percentage of the market. But CBD oils also include CBD tinctures even though they are slightly different. In this article, we are going to show you how CBD tinctures are different from CBD oils, how they are produced and what they are.
What is a CBD tincture?
According to the dictionary, a tincture is “a medicine made by dissolving a drug in alcohol”.
When applied to CBD products, it would mean CBD-rich hemp would be steeped in an alcohol bath and heated to extract the CBD compound. This traditional method is used by 100s of companies, but not ours.
Using alcohol to extract CBD leaves dangerous residues and a nasty taste to the product. At Pure Organic CBD, we refrain from using any chemicals for the extraction method. Instead, we use a state of the art process using supercritical CO2. CO2 is an inert gas used in drinks. Our own bodies produce CO2 every time we breathe. Supercritical CO2 is a hybrid state of matter where a gas acts more like a liquid under pressure.
We’ve found that CO2 extraction leaves no trace residues or chemicals in the final product. We therefore do not have to add flavourings or additives to mask the taste. While some prefer flavoured CBD oils, studies show that psychologically, consumers prefer that taste of natural cannabis and connect it with effectiveness and quality.
How are CBD Tinctures used?
A CBD tincture normally uses a dropper to administer products. The preferred method of use is by placing drops under your tongue and keeping them there. Your exact dose will depend largely on your goal with CBD. We encourage our customers to use as little as possible while maintaining a positive outcome.
Speaking with CBD expert Mary Biles who is a writer at ProjectCBD.org and author of “The CBD Book, The Essential Guide to CBD Oil”, about CBD dosage, she mentioned that many consumers often take too much CBD.
Mary goes on to say that “…it is not necessary for people to take too much as it will not increase the effect or speed up a positive outcome”.

How are CBD oils Different to CBD Tinctures?
Earlier in this article, we mentioned that CBD Oil and CBD tinctures are closely related, but not the exact same. CBD oil can mean any oil with either broad spectrum (THC Free CBD), Isolate (no other cannabinoids) and full spectrum. While a tincture by definition will contain the full plant extract, the same as a full spectrum CBD oil.
An example of a CBD tincture we sell is any of our products in the black boxes. You can find these on our Buy CBD page. Full spectrum CBD contains all of the plants extracts including terpenes, flavonoids and cannabinoids like CBC, CBD, CBG and THC.
As a company, we’ve learned that when we say full plant extract or full spectrum, people adverse to marijuana sometimes pull back. There is no need to be alarmed if you are buying quality CBD tinctures and here is why:
CBD produced using quality hemp that is low in THC will naturally produce a safe product that has no psychotropic effects. Please avoid using CBD tinctures that contain alcohol as these are inferior products and have health risks for pregnant women. This leads us to our final point.
Is a CBD Tincture Right for You?
CBD tincture or CBD oil, how do you know what is best for you? If you want a fast acting dose of CBD we would suggest you stick with a safe and effective product like our full spectrum cbd oils. They have all of the plant’s natural extracts including the legal limit of THC. We never use chemicals or solvents and we only use organic carrier oils to ensure your CBD experience is as pure as possible.
If you still have questions, ask your doctor if CBD is right for you. CBD can interact with certain medications like blood thinners and heart medication. For more information about that, read our CBD and drug interactions article.
Be sure to use products that are safe, tested and chemical free. For more info, read our article on how to find a great CBD oil product.
